Generic Cardura belongs to a class of medicines called antihypertensives. It is referred to an alpha blockers. Generic Cardura works by relaxing blood vessels so that blood passes through them more easily. This helps to lower blood pressure.
Generic Cardura relax the muscles around the prostate gland which is also under the influence of the alpha adrenergic portion nervous system. This can makes urination easier for men affected by enlarged prostate glands.
Active Ingredients: Doxazosin
Inactive Ingredients: sodium starch glycolate, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose, magnesium stearate and sodium lauryl sulfate.
What is Generic Cardura PRESCRIBED For?
Generic Cardura tablets are indicated for the treatment of hypertension by lowering blood pressure and/or to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Generic Cardura helps relax the muscles in the prostate and the opening of the bladder. This may help increase the flow of urine and/or decrease the symptoms. However, Generic Cardura will not shrink the prostate. The prostate may continue to get larger. This may cause the symptoms to become worse over time. Therefore, even though Generic Cardura may lessen the problems caused by enlarged prostate now, surgery still may be needed in the future.
Generic Cardura is used for the treatment of both the urinary outflow obstruction and obstructive and irritative symptoms associated with BPH: obstructive symptoms (hesitation, intermittency, dribbling, weak urinary stream, incomplete emptying of the bladder) and irritative symptoms (nocturia, daytime frequency, urgency, burning).
How Should I Take Generic Cardura?
Generic Cardura tablets should be taken orally. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water. The doses should be taken at regular intervals even if you feel better. Do not take Generic Cardura more often than directed. Your health care professional may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results from this medication.
Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degreec C (59 and 86 degrees F).
Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.
What are the CONTRAINDICATIONS for taking Generic Cardura?
If you have or plan to have a surgery, you should notify your doctor immediately. If you have cataract surgery during your treatment with Cardura, then it can affect the pupils of your eyes. Therefore you should consult your doctor befre taken ant actions.
You may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during therapy with Generic Cardura if you have liver disease, or a history of prostate cancer.
Generic Cardura may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your health care professional if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.
It is not known whether Generic Cardura passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your health care professional if you are breast-feeding a baby.
What Happens if I MISS A DOSE?
If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.
NOTE: Do not double doses.
What happens if I OVERDOSE?
Symptoms of a Generic Cardura overdose include weakness, dizziness, and fainting; a weak, fast pulse; cold, clammy skin; and possibly loss of consciousness or coma.
If an overdose is suspected call you local emergency immediately.
What are the possible SIDE EFFECTS of Generic Cardura?
Generic Cardura may cause some people to become drowsy or less alert than they are normally. Make sure you know how you react to this medicine before you drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are dizzy, drowsy, or are not alert. After you have taken several doses of Generic Cardura, these effects should lessen.
The dizziness, lightheadedness, or sudden fainting is more likely to occur if you drink alcohol, stand for a long time, exercise, or if the weather is hot. While you are taking this medicine, be careful to limit the amount of alcohol you drink. Also, use extra care during exercise or hot weather or if you must stand for a long time.
Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

What other drugs can INTERACT with Generic Cardura?
Tell your health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including nonprescription medicines, nutritional supplements, or herbal products. Your health care professional should be also notified if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.
Generic Cardura is contraindicated if you are taking:
- other alpha-blockers such as alfuzosin;
- phentolamine;
- phenoxybenzamine;
- prazosin;
- tamsulosin;
- terazosin;
- tadalafil;
- vardenafil.
Generic Cardura may also interact with the following medications:
- antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen);
- dopamine;
- female hormones, including contraceptive or birth control pills;
- medicines for colds and breathing difficulties;
- medicines for high blood pressure;
- metaraminol;
- methoxamine;
- sildenafil;
- water pills.
